HDMI has emerged as the digital standard for connecting HDTV devices, displays and components, and provides for the pristine transmission of high-definition digital video and digital audio via a single cable. Both based on Silicon Image's high-speed digital TMDS® technology, HDMI is fully compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface)-based devices. Further, HDMI is the first and only digital interface for Consumer Electronics devices that can carry:

A little about HDMI - HDMI provides an interface between newer audio / video source, such as set top box, DVD players, PVR, PS3, audio video receiver and or a video monitor such as a HDTV or Digital television.
HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi channel digital audio on a single cable. HDMI transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports 8 - channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements. HDTV uses less than 1/2 of HDMI's available 5 Gbps bandwidth.
Do I need a super thick or fancy looking cable?
As you may have noticed, some cables sold at electronic retail stores are are really thick and polished up in a facny package. This is done to make the cable appear to be "more high quality.” Because the cable jacket is much thicker, buyers often think that the signal may be better and spend three times as much money. The fact is, a thicker cable jacket does not produce a better signal. The largest factor in HDMI success will be a quality cable that has proper gauge of cable inside of it.
In fact, professional installers shy away from those store brand cables. Those fancy retail store cables are much more difficult to connect, run through walls and conceal behind hanging Plasma and LCD monitors.
The best cable you can purchase is the one that is totally incased in a PVC style jacket to keep it completely protected from moisture and cold. A quality cable like ours will last the longest and provide the best signal.
The last thing you want to do is rip into your walls to replace a corroded cable a few years down the line. |
